The beauty industry has been known to carry a limited range of foundations mostly for lighter skin tones, but in recent years more companies are creating products that cater to women of color and darker skin. Here are 5 of my favorite foundations for us dark skin beauties, all under $30:
1. MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in NW58 – $28
This powder foundation provides a matte finish with medium coverage that’s easily buildable. I love using this foundation on days when I want a more natural look.
Available for purchase here
2. Shea Moisure Serum Foundation in Ebony – $14.99
This foundation has a blend of organic shea butter and vitamins C and E to nourish and moisturize your skin while you’re wearing it! That’s one thing I love the most about this foundation, because having healthy skin is one of my number one priorities over having nice makeup. This foundation is very lightweight and has a very silky consistency that provides light to medium coverage on your skin. If you have oily skin, this foundation is not for you, as it can be a bit oily. However, this is my favorite foundation to use during the colder winter months because it’s very moisturizing and gives your skin a natural glow. The shade I bought, Ebony, is a bit too red for me so I mix it with the next lightest color, Praline.
3. NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Foundation in Deep Dark – $7.49
Great liquid foundation that comes in 30 different shades, including several shades for darker skin tones. I love this foundation because of the silky, matte finish, and it provides great medium to full coverage. I use this both during the day and night; at night the coverage is great for when I don’t want to do a full glam look. The darkest shade Deep Dark is a bit too dark for me, so again, I mix this with the next lightest shade, Cocoa.
4. Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer in Golden Toffee – $10
If you’re looking for a full coverage foundation that does it all, this one is for you! With this foundation there’s no need for concealer. I use this when I’m going out or for more glamorous looks. The only thing I don’t like about this foundation is that it has a slight perfume smell, but it goes away shortly after you apply it (or maybe it just becomes less noticeable).
Available for purchase at Milani or any local drugstore such as CVS, Walgreens, Target, etc.
5. Black Opal True Color Stick Foundation in Suede Mocha – $9.95
This is hands-down my favorite foundation for full glam looks, or going out for special occasions. This full coverage foundation is soooo silky and smooth and gives the skin a velvety, matte finish. My makeup always looks amazing with this foundation, I love it!
Available for purchase at Black Opal or any local drugstore.
